About the Role

This is a participant role in Democracy in Colour's POC Placement Program - an on-the-job training program for campaigners of colour. This program is about finding emerging campaigners of colour, supporting their talent, and pushing organisations to centre their voices for real, lasting change. It places emerging leaders in paid campaigning roles in advocacy NGOs alongside a training and mentoring program run by Democracy in Colour. As part of the program, you will work within Uniting, and spend on average a half day per week participating in training and professional development as part of the placement program.

In this position you will be an integral member of the Media and Public Affairs team in the People, Customer and Systems team.

This role is responsible for supporting the Media and Public Affairs team to protect and enhance the reputation of Uniting. You will provide media relations, social media, research, project management, measurement / reporting and administrative support on brand, advocacy and business stream Media activity.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Execute the Uniting social media strategy across all relevant accounts, channels, tone of voice, frequency of communication and moderation
  • Assist the Digital Manager – Social Media to manage all social media platforms associated with Uniting: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Stories
  • Research and create relevant, original, shareable and high-quality content. This will include writing, minor photo / video editing in Canva.
  • Meet with relevant stakeholders to discuss, plan and approve social media content
  • Maximise audience social media reach and engagement for all Uniting content
  • Assist the Uniting 1800 team to maintain community management and moderation
  • Research and report using social media listening tools to provide stakeholders with sentiment on issues affecting Uniting
  • Assist the Digital Manager – Social Media with the implementation of brand social media marketing campaigns
  • Develop and proactively share insights / reports with the Digital Manager – Social Media relevant and the broader teams

Ideally you have:

  • Well-rounded knowledge of the social media platforms outlined above, including emerging social trends; practical experience working with social media platforms for a business or brand preferable
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills, including excellent use of correct spelling and grammar
  • Ability to analyse, review and report on the effectiveness of content and audience sentiment
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail

Essential selection criteria:

  • Experience working with affected and diverse communities
  • Lived experience of being a part of and working with communities of colour or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

You will have the ability to:

  • Demonstrate passion, enthusiasm and genuine commitment various causes and programs and our workforce diversity
  • Use your excellent written, verbal communication skills and storytelling
  • Apply your knowledge of Canva and Adobe Photoshop an advantage
  • Utilise your knowledge of social media platforms a must
