About the opportunity

The primary function of the Ethics Administrator position is to carry out day-to-day operations of animal and human ethics research operations within the Research Integrity and Ethics Administration unit, including administrative duties and client support.

Reporting to the Human Ethics Officer, the Ethics Administrator will be responsible for:

  • Processing and preparing general correspondence to researchers regarding the decisions of the ethics committees including approvals, conditional approvals or other correspondence related to research protocols.
  • Handling general enquiries about human and animal research ethical requirements via email, telephone or face-to-face.
  • Maintaining systems including the Integrated Research Management System (IRMA), databases and document and records management software (TRIM) to store all information in relation to human and animal research ethics protocols including new applications, progress reports, annual review, and modifications.

  • A strong interest in and understanding of human and animal research ethics.
  • Knowledge of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and/or the Australian Code for Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under general direction, be self-motivated and take initiative.
  • Strong customer service focus. Ability to balance the needs of various stakeholders. Ability to communicate with a broad range of people both inside and outside the University, including people from non-English speaking backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience in servicing large decision-making committees, including committee processes (such as minute taking) and operations, highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated good organisational and administrative skills. High level attention to detail.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
  • Excellent computer skills including good working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Filemaker Pro (or similar) Ability to learn new software / platforms quickly.
