About the opportunity

The Student Life Cluster is in a period of exciting transformation in order to align with the University’s strategic plan, developed to deliver an outstanding student experience. In light of this, we are seeking an experienced Head of Student Wellbeing who will be accountable for the strategic and operational planning and management of the Student Wellbeing work area and is responsible for the oversight of critical incident management and investigations. Demonstrating a commitment to student-centricity, you will ensure that all health and wellbeing support services delivered by the teams within the Student Wellbeing work area achieve a seamless, coherent, and satisfying experience for students at the University. The Head of Student Wellbeing is accountable for the University Health Service, Counselling Services, Wellbeing Services, Inclusion & Disability Services, and Safer Communities teams.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) Student Life, and as a senior member of the PVC Student Life leadership team, you will be responsible for establishing and implementing evidence-based approaches to resource planning, priority setting and strategic decision making, maximising the application of insights from data, consultation, and benchmarking within Student Wellbeing. The Head of Student Wellbeing is required to act as the ‘Case Manager’ for critical incidents, leading the Universities reporting and response to managing the critical incident, as outlined in the Critical Incidents Involving Students Procedures 2018 and is required to be available ‘on-call’ for after-hours emergency calls relating to critical incidents.

About you

  • A postgraduate qualification with extensive relevant experience in operations management or business administration
  • Experience managing the provision of best-practice in health and wellbeing support services including but not limited to counselling services, disability services, and supporting those who have experienced sexual misconduct and gender based violence
  • Proven strategic and organisational planning skills, including the ability to develop and monitor operational plans, to establish and monitor key performance targets and to effectively allocate resources to ensure operational and service delivery goals are met in a high volume and complex environment
  • Experience in creating and leading a continuous improvement culture that proactively identifies, prioritises, and implements changes that improve customer experience
  • Proven ability to identify and lead business transformation initiatives, with a track record in informing strategy and leading change across policy, process, people and technology and the implementation of new operating models and structures
  • Experience using evidence-based approaches that employ highly developed analytical skills to distil operational data into business and strategic insights to inform key organisational decisions
  • Experience as an executive or senior leader, including the ability to foster strong, collaborative working relationships across internal executive and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and build high performing teams, including the ability to lead and coach managers to develop high performing teams via effective planning, monitoring and leadership
  • Excellent engagement, communication, and negotiation skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders at all organisational levels, including development of high-quality written information (reports, briefings, ROI proposals etc) and presentations for a range of audiences, to effectively manage stakeholder with competing interests.
