About the opportunity

This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

The HR Partnering function is in a period of significant development, striving to achieve an integrated service offering aligned with the University’s ambitious workforce strategy and organisational design objectives. As a result, we are seeking a strategically aligned and collaborative HR Partner (Identified) to join the team. In this role, you will be working closely with the Manager Indigenous Employment, and other identified roles across HR, with a particular focus on implementing and supporting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategic Framework 2019 - 2021 and the One Sydney, Many People 2021 – 2024 Strategy.

Partnering with senior leaders within your client groups, you will develop a robust understanding of their business and will effectively advise on their HR needs, strategic transformation and change initiatives. As a subject matter expert, you will play an integral role in driving key linkage and collaboration across the various HR Centres of Expertise (COEs) to deliver culturally informed and appropriate HR practices and advisory services in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Your dedication towards enriching the employee lifecycle is essential in contributing to an elevated and integrated approach in supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Design fit-for-purpose solutions and provide direction to your clients on HR matters spanning workforce planning, talent management, diversity and inclusion, performance management, reward, and recognition, learning and development and staff engagement
  • Provide advice on how HR advisory services across portfolios are delivered in a culturally appropriate manner towards meeting the specific needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees
  • Assist in building capability among the wider HR Partnering and HR consulting teams to provide tailored and consistent HR solutions and advice in relation to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff
  • Support the development of annual client plans and collaborate with the other HR COEs to implement required solutions, meeting the key current needs of the client portfolio
  • Provides subject matter specific data analysis, insights, and reports in relation to the delivery of HR projects and solutions.

About you

  • Extensive experience as a HR professional within a large and multifaceted organisation
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander societies and culture
  • Awareness of emerging and effective organisational development and HR approaches that underpin advisory services and quality practice, including knowledge of best practice recruitment, retention, development and attraction of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Enhanced stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted client relationships with tact and professionalism at the senior level
  • Expertise in talent management, driving high performance, change management, workplace relations, workforce planning and employee engagement
  • A high degree of capability working with and interpreting complex Industrial elements, enterprise agreements, awards and relevant policies
  • An agile solutions-orientated approach coupled with the ability to coach and empower leaders to make people decisions.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
