UMFC has the above part time (22.8 hrs p.w.) ongoing position available within Child & Family Services (CaFS) based in Wodonga or Wangaratta.

About us

UMFC Child and Family Services is made up of Family Services, Specialised Programs, Child Well-Being, Family Therapy and Preschool Field Officers and supports vulnerable children, young people and their families.

The service provides an entry point for vulnerable children and families to access the range of services and supports they need to build the capacity of the family to support their children's healthy development. Intensive casework and case coordination, sometimes in collaboration with other services, has the aim of strengthening the capacity of families to promote the safety, stability and development of their children and young people.

About the role

The Specialist Family Counselling (LGBTIQA+) position will provide counselling and support to LGBTIQA+ people and their families/support networks, as well as secondary consultation to other relevant community based services. The key outcomes are to improve the safety, security, mental health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ people; and improving family relationships, community connections, cohesion and support.

Along with other important qualities the successful applicant will have:

  • Qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling and psychotherapy, family therapy, or related field
  • Experience in providing therapeutic interventions to individuals and groups in child and family services or related sector
  • A commitment to and experience in working with people from LGBTIQA+ communities
