External Communication Officer - Social Justice & Inclusion

The UTS Marketing and Communication Unit is currently recruiting for an experienced communication professional to take the lead on strategic campaigns and projects for the UTS Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion.

Social justice is core to UTS’s DNA and our Strategic Plan, UTS 2027. This focus has already created a rich array of successful social justice, equity and diversity programs across the University. The Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion is a gateway for partners and communities to engage with the university's resources and expertise to maximise social impact.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Centre’s leadership team to encourage advocacy and engagement among community organisations, not-for-profits, social purpose businesses, and individuals through targeted campaigns; and create and implement innovative strategies across multiple channels and audiences to grow awareness and the reputation of UTS as a world-leading public university of technology recognised for global impact.

If successful in applying for this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate communication strategies and campaigns designed to meet objectives.
  • Oversee the development and production of internal and external Centre communications, across a variety of channels, online and offline platforms and materials.
  • Promote key UTS social justice events and activities to priority audiences.
  • Provide strategic advice to internal clients and partners on appropriate communication strategies including positioning, target audiences and marketing mix elements.
  • Build strategic relationships with key internal clients (e.g., executive, deans and directors etc.).
  • Liaise with key internal clients and MCU leadership to update and report on the success of the communication programs and strategies.

With examples, please outline in a separate document how you meet the following six (6) key selection criteria points:

  • Tertiary qualification in communications or related area.
  • Successful record of developing, managing and measuring communication strategies, initiatives and campaigns within a large organisation.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills in a variety of formats and technologies, from media and social media to websites and traditional article writing.
  • High level organisational and relationship management skills.
  • Familiarity with current issues relevant to the Australian higher education sector, as well as diversity, inclusion and social justice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of accessible communication across different formats and platforms (desirable).

Remuneration & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $92,791 to $102,650 pa (HEW 7)
  • This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 12 months, covering a parental leave.
