The UTS Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion is recruiting for a Research Officer to work with their Paul Ramsay Foundation Fellow and Industry Professor to produce a report exploring how AI-based technology could help lift education outcomes for disadvantaged students, along with the wider public policy implications.

This role would suit an early career researcher wanting to experience a high-profile applied research project with real-world relevance and the chance to connect to leading international thinkers in AI, education and policy.

This part-time role is primarily responsible for shaping and running the fellowship's research activities and supporting the Industry Professor's activities over the 12-month period of their fellowship. A key objective is to ensure that all research matters are prioritised and delivered to a high standard of reliability, insight and effectiveness.

The Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion is a gateway for partners and communities to engage with the university's resources and expertise to maximise social impact.

If successful in applying for this role, you will:

  • Shape and manage the core research activities of the Industry Professor within the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion.
  • Provide accurate, efficient and timely facilitation of data collection and analysis.
  • Actively contribute to activities which will build the sustainability and wider application of the work including investigation and evidence development; identifying and liaising with experts and research stakeholders; organising activity to promote scholarly and industry research collaborations; documenting and communicating purpose, focus, and themes.
  • Prepare presentations, reports and publications for academic and industry audiences; designing research protocols; undertaking literature searches, data/evidence collation, interviews and reporting.
  • Maintain successful relationship with stakeholders and high-quality management of project activities.
  • Co-ordinate and support effective, relevant roundtables, working group and stakeholder meetings to enhance the quality of research, the final report and the impact of the fellowship.
  • Assist the Industry Professor to meet milestones, report progress and keep the project on schedule.

The successful applicant will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience in an analytical or research-related environment, with a strong working knowledge of research and an interest in translating results for impact.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise, engaging and research-informed fashion
  • Experience in liaising with and engaging diverse groups of stakeholders through projects and programs and a demonstrated capacity to build relationships and consensus around complex problems
  • Well-developed time management, organisational skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Capacity for high level of independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and detail, whilst at times working under pressure, and to quickly respond to requests while maintaining excellent work presentation.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in a range of applicable computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and ideally, the capacity to use the University systems software.
  • Willingness to learn new skills as required.
  • Proven experience in a similar role.

Remuneration

  • Base Salary Range: $84 091 to $91 049 pro-rated (HEW 6)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is part-time (approximately 2-3 days per week) and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
