Vision 2020 Australia is the national not-for-profit peak body working in partnership to prevent avoidable blindness and improve vision care in Australia. We represent around 50 members involved in local and global eye care, health promotion, low vision support, vision rehabilitation, eye research, professional assistance and community support.

Vision 2020 Australia runs the Vision Initiative, an integrated eye health promotion program funded by the Victorian Government which aims to prevent avoidable blindness and address the impact of vision loss in the Victorian community. About the role

This role is responsible for leading, implementing and monitoring the delivery of the Victorian Vision Initiative to maximise its effectiveness and impact. The program is at a critical point, and you will combine your knowledge of health promotion (or other relevant prevention activity) with your strong organisational skills and your relationship management skills to motivate and guide a small team to deliver on the program's KPIs.

To do that you need to be self-motivated, flexible, forward thinking and have the ability to inspire others. You will use your strategic, organisational and program management skills to build collaborative relationships and deliver impactful work as well as participating on the organisation's Leadership Team, and your infectious energy will inspire your team as well as our small organisation.

You will have a lead role in detailed work planning to establish key targets and milestones, managing staff and resources to ensure these are delivered, and building and maintaining a wide range of relationships with stakeholders through formal and informal mechanisms and partnerships.

The program is currently going through an external evaluation and you will play a key role in supporting that evaluation process and managing the ongoing relationship with our funder, the Victorian Department of Health.

Level of Direction or Supervision

This position reports to the CEO, operates under direction with some autonomy. It is expected that the primary activities of the role will be performed with minimal supervision.

To be successful in the role, the Vision Initiative Program Manager will:

  • Be highly organised

  • Be able to actively plan and organise competing priorities, from conception through to delivery
  • Have strong people management skills to help support, develop and coach staff
  • Be highly adaptable, flexible and collaborative
  • Be experienced in complex policy and program design work
  • Have strong written and conceptual skills, the ability to manage multiple threads of work and deliver high quality work under tight deadlines.

Time commitment

The appointment is currently to 17 December 2021, with the potential for extension (subject to funding).

Location

The position will be Victorian based. Vision 2020 Australia operates a hybrid working model that enables all staff to combine home-based working with periodic work at its Carlton office. Flexible arrangements will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Key Selection Criteria

Skills and knowledge

  • Project Planning, Coordination and Monitoring: developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans, monitoring against these to ensure timely delivery that meets contractual obligations
  • Conceptual and analytical skills: sourcing and analysing relevant materials and data, developing options papers for stakeholder consideration considering a range of evidence, inputs and ideas; developing clear, succinct advice and reports on program issues and progress
  • Communication and engagement: developing and executive proactive communications and engagement strategies; ensuring opportunities to communicate the impact of the Vision Initiative are maximised and messages are engaging and fit for purpose
  • Strong relationship management skills; able to establish and maintain strong, respectful and productive working relationships with a diverse range of organisations and individuals
  • Evaluation and impact: Able to design initiatives that maximise the impact of available resources and effectively evaluate these to quantify and promote those impacts
  • Solid knowledge of health promotion and/or other prevention/behaviour change approaches, ideally with experience in the delivery of programs targeted to preventing harm and/or improving wellbeing.
  • Effective people manager, able to direct, develop and inspire a small, multidisciplinary team

Other relevant information

  • Qualifications: Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of eye care and/or the broader health sector will be highly regarded. Experience in working with government funders will also be highly regarded

Suitably qualified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or people with lived experience of blindness or low vision are encouraged to apply.
