About the role

The YTC Custody Worker will provide support to young people in the YTC Program who are remanded or sentenced in Parkville or Malmsbury YJ Centres, supported by YTC Team Leader. There is also the opportunity to observe and learn YTC case work activities supported and supervised by YTC Program Manager and Senior Case Workers. The duties can include co-working with case workers, supporting case workers with completing assessments and care planning, providing support that is culturally safe, timely, effective, efficient, gender-specific, and client-centred.

The successful candidate will support YTC clients in custody, promote the YTC program to custody staff and ATSI young people in custody. The successful candidate will work as part of the YTC team to support young people (clients) as they transition out of detention.

About You

  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose and the capacity to take a leadership role in championing these internally and externally
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities
  • Demonstrated experience in working and engaging with Aboriginal families and children/ Demonstrated experience in child and family sector
  • Passionate about working with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or vulnerable groups
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of the Youth Justice system in Victoria
  • Willingness to learn therapeutic case management
  • Demonstrated positive experience working and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, families and young people
  • Current COVID-19 vaccinations (minimum two doses and booster shot before commencement)

Desirable

Certifications in case management and/or therapeutic practices (i.e. Trauma-informed Care, AoD, Domestic Violence, Social Work, Community Development or other relevant areas).
