Who is VACCA?

The Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of it’s kind in Australia. About the Role:

The main aim of The Orange Door Hub is to provide a safe way for adults, children and young people to access services when they are experiencing family violence or need support with the care, development and wellbeing of their children and young people. The Hub Practitioner role, based between our Broadmeadows, Craigieburn and Sunbury locations, is required to undertake comprehensive child assessments, family violence risk assessments, support referral pathways and provide short term case management.

Key tasks of the Hub Practitioners include:

  • Working with Aboriginal families and individuals providing case management and advocacy.
  • Support, inform and assist Aboriginal people referred to the Hub throughout their involvement.
  • Supporting the Hub Team through consultation, education and outreach, ensuring that their work with Aboriginal families and individuals is culturally responsible.
  • Liaising with and providing specialist or secondary consultation to organisations and services within the Hub network in order to discuss direct service issues for Aboriginal people accessing services through the Hub.

We currently have 3 Hub Practitioner roles to fill. We are looking for experienced staff to become Senior Hub Practitioners, but opportunities exist to commence your career for candidates possessing qualifications and looking to enter the field.

What we require from you:

To best ensure that you will be best able to successfully complete the tasks associated with this role, you will require the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or equivalent qualifications (or willing to obtain) and/or experience in the field
  • Experience working within the Family Violence, Child Protection or Out of Home Care Sectors
  • A Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee
  • A full unencumbered Victorian Drivers Licence
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail and well developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Resilience, perseverance and self awareness skills
  • The ability to deliver culturally safe and responsible service, valuing Aboriginal self-determination and supporting strong, safe, thriving Aboriginal communities.
