About the opportunity

The Senior Project Officer – Primary Health will work with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to support the coordination, development and effectiveness of Primary Health Practice Management. The role will support the continuing professional development of Practice Managers and other Primary Health workers in ACCHOs. This will be achieved through the development of Communities of Practice for Primary Health workers, the organisation of Workforce Gatherings, coordinating training and professional development activity, and undertaking ACCHO site visits to engage with and understand the needs of Primary Health workers. The role will also work closely with VACCHO’s Governance and Quality Team to support ACCHOs in maintaining continuous quality improvement, compliances and accreditation, and the development of resources supporting best practice in Primary Health.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Primary Health aspects of implementing VACCHO’s Whole of Workforce Strategy for the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Workforce.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders involved in the provision of Primary Health Care, including but not limited to Primary Health Networks, Local Public Health Units, workforce associations and agencies such as RWAV, etc.
  • Assist the Executive Director, Public Health Medical Officers, and relevant portfolio-holders with advice, reports, and project coordination tasks as required.
  • Work with VACCHO’s Governance and Quality Team to support member ACCOs to comply with applicable standards in quality, safety, and governance, and to develop Continuous Quality Improvement.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Victorian Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal organisations, communities, and individuals in culturally appropriate ways as well as mainstream health organisations.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability of working independently with minimal supervision, and as an effective team member, promoting cooperation and commitment to achieve goals.
  • Experience in a Primary Health setting either as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Practice Manager, or equivalent.
