About the Opportunity

The primary function of the Aboriginal Healing Worker is to provide high quality assessment and counselling services and contribute to the development of models of holistic health incorporating continuity of care.

The Aboriginal Healing Workers (1 male & 1 female) work within a clinical team environment with the aim of improving the mental health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the provision of comprehensive and culturally safe healing.

Key Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role you must have the following:

  • An understanding of the impacts and prevalence of sexual abuse in our community and a willingness to learn how to work with survivors, including children, young people and adults to heal from those impacts.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the Aboriginal community respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business
  • Sound knowledge of the health issues which influence the social emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a strong commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other services, including child protection, police and other statutory bodies.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • A willingness to learn and step outside your comfort zone to support the healing needs of Aboriginal survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault.
  • Well-developed and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience working with an electronic Patient Management System e.g. MMEX (electronic medical appointment system)
  • Demonstrated skill working as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance outcomes
