About the team

Our Carer Support Team is growing! We are looking for someone to join our team of Carer Support Practitioners. The recruitment and support of our foster carers is an essential service for Veritas House. We designed our Carer Support Team to provide Carers with specialised support at the times they need it most! The Carer Support Team undertakes activities in relation to supporting and retaining high quality foster carers for children and young people who are in the Permanency Support Program (foster care).

About the role

We are looking for an additional Carer Assessor to join to our growing team! This role is permanent and full-time, based in Bathurst but includes travel in the Central West and surrounding areas (for assessments).

This position is responsible for assessing the suitability of potential Carers, along with conducting Carer reviews that confirm the ongoing suitability of Carers. This role includes:

  • meeting with potential foster carers and working with them through the assessment process,
  • completing Carer Assessments using the Step by Step assessment tool,
  • writing comprehensive reviews and reports for the Assessment Panel.

This position is paid under the SCHCADS Award (Level 6 - dependent on experience).

About you

Selection Criteria:

Ideally, this role would suit someone who has experience in Carer Support and Assessment, including:

  1. Relevant professional, tertiary qualifications (in Community Services, Social Work, Psychology or similar).
  2. Training in and experienced using the “Step-by-Step" carer assessment tool.
  3. Well-developed understanding of child protection legislation.
  4. Ability to write clear, evidence-based and unbiased reports and reviews.
  5. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to have honest and at times challenging conversations.
  6. Previous experience in completing assessments for Restoration, Guardianship or Pre-Adoption matters (desirable).

A driver’s licence, clear Working with Children Check and Criminal History check, full COVID vaccination and the right to work in Australia are pre-requisites for this position.
