Veterinarians for Climate Action (VfCA) is a fast growing climate organisation formed in late 2019. We have three staff (including this hire) and approximately 50 highly engaged volunteers focussed on enabling vets, vet nurses and the community of animal lovers around them to get involved in the climate movement. Our volunteers work in teams and truly drive the work of the organisation - they contribute to strategy, help with internal operational matters, write submissions on behalf of VfCA, attend lobbying meetings with MPs. And so much more.
The Community Organiser / Organising Lead will support our individual volunteers and volunteer teams to achieve their goals and, ultimately, the mission of VfCA. So far, the support for our volunteers has been ad-hoc. You’ll have the opportunity to make a mark on the organisation and play a crucial role in improving our systems and processes, recruiting and training leaders and setting our volunteers up for success. Community organising is at the heart of VfCA - so your work here will be vital and you’ll have a great deal of autonomy.
Develop and lead the implementation of a Community Organising Strategy which aligns with VfCA’s Strategic Plan
Recruit, motivate, train and support volunteers and Volunteer Team Leaders to take action in VfCA campaigns. These activities may include but are not limited to hosting webinars, stalls, phone banking, door knocking, MP meetings.
Support, manage and supervise Volunteer Team Leaders and their teams to effectively implement campaigns and projects that help realise VfCA’s Strategic Plan
Provide strategic advice and guidance to Volunteer Team Leaders on organising matters such as how to recruit, structure and grow their teams, building and managing relationships and project management
Develop and adapt training materials that meet volunteers’ needs, expectations and existing experience levels
Attend and facilitate volunteer meetings, events and trainings.
Ensure success metrics are set for activities.
Ensure data is collected and integrated into VfCA information management systems
Assist the CEO in the development of digital communication strategies and tactics that effectively engage VfCA’s supporter base to take action
Develop, test and review new organising tools, technologies, processes and practices.
Observe the safe working practices and protect your own and others’ health and safety
Other duties as requested by the CEO - this is a small organisation and we all pitch in.
We value diverse experiences and perspectives to strengthen our team, strategies, and movement. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, parents and carers from all types of families, and people living anywhere in Australia. We offer some flexibility in working hours to fit with your family, cultural and community commitments.
