Very Special Kids provides specialist palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions, improving overall quality of life for them and their families. Our focus on an integrated approach to professional, practical, and emotional support services help families create positive, lasting memories together.

We are experts in complex care and tailored interventions for children, and supportive services for their families, across the full journey from diagnosis to bereavement.

Our free-of-charge services support more than 850 families across Victoria from trained family experts and volunteers, including counselling, advocacy, sibling support, bereavement support, networking and peer activities.

We currently have an exciting and rewarding opportunity to lead our dedicated and passionate Family Support Team. This team of professional staff are responsible for the delivery of psychosocial support to families across Victoria. With backgrounds in social work, psychology, family therapy and counselling, the team provides a range of family-centred programs including counselling, sibling support, trained volunteers and bereavement support.

Your Background will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualifications in relevant field or working towards
  • Proven management experience in a health or community services organisation
  • Well-developed program management skills including planning, budgeting, evaluation, quality improvement and policy development
  • Highly developed strength in building and maintaining strong relationships with individuals, clients and peers
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical supervision and counselling theoretical frameworks
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Post graduate qualifications in grief and bereavement or relevant field preferred
