Very Special Kids cares for children with life-threatening conditions by providing Victoria’s only children’s hospice and professional family support services. Our free-of-charge services help more than 900 families across Victoria, with ongoing support from the child’s diagnosis all the way through to recovery or bereavement and beyond.
Our eight bed children's hospice offers planned respite and emergency respite as well as end-of-life care for children with life-threatening conditions. Most children who come to stay have complex medical and care needs. Reporting into the lead Registered Nurse on shift (or being the lead Registered Nurse on shift) with our staff/patient ratio of 1:2, allows the unique opportunity for high quality care and a rewarding experience.
In 2021 we are embarking on our single biggest service improvement project; a hospice rebuild to deliver a new world class centre and ensure the highest level of internationally led best practice care can be delivered. During the time of the build we will be temporarily based in a 4 bed facility in Monash Children’s Hospital.
This position will oversee and provide guidance in ensuring the best practice of Infection Control is delivered to a high standard at all times. You will manage and develop the existing infection control processes, procedures, auditing and other requirements in accordance with relevant NSQHSS legislation and HICMR guidelines.
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced clinical registered nurse and preferably have some exposure to paediatrics and/ or palliative care nursing. In addition, you will bring a depth of experience working within an Infection Control Capacity. You will have excellent IT and record management skills and the proven ability to work autonomously. A passion for and commitment to providing holistic, family-centred care is a must and experience working with children, families and volunteers within a health setting is desirable.
In return, Very Special Kids offers its employees a supportive and rewarding environment including a supportive team, unique beautiful setting conveniently located to shops, parking and transport in Malvern, NFP salary packaging, health & wellbeing initiatives and targeted individual development plans.
