About Very Special Kids:

When a child or young person is diagnosed with a life limiting condition their whole family joins them on an uncertain and overwhelming journey. As Victoria’s leading specialists in children’s palliative care, it is our mission to provide all the professional, practical and emotional support children and their families need to navigate their journey.

Established in 1985 by Sister Margaret Noone AM, Very Special Kids has provided specialised care to thousands of children and young people with life-limiting conditions. Our multidisciplinary experts support children and families across Victoria, from initial diagnosis to end of life care, and bereavement - for as long as they need. Our holistic services include counselling, sibling support, bereavement support and community activities, as well as planned and emergency respite and end-of-life care.

The Very Special Kids children’s hospice was the first in Australia and remains the only children’s hospice in Victoria. What started from two families has now grown into a network of over 100 staff and almost 800 volunteers all supporting over 850 families across Victoria.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for:

  • Ensuring all clinical nursing practice and delivery of care of the shift is consistent with VSK and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Standards, NSQHS Standards and accepts responsibility for professional activities that support service delivery and the professional development of self and others.
  • Providing comprehensive, safe, evidence-based practice to facilitate optimal care; performing self-assessment of scope of practice and competence related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Provision of high-quality care to the children and families accessing Very Special Kids Hospice is demonstrated.
  • Works effectively as a hands-on part of a skilled, creative, professional and compassionate team.

Our preference is that you will be a Registered Nurse with at least 2 + years post-graduation Registered Nursing experience, however if you have less experience but have a passion for providing holistic, family centred care we welcome your application.
