The Western Australian Council of Social Service Inc (WACOSS) is the peak council of community service organisations in Western Australia. WACOSS is part of a national network comprising ACOSS and the State and Territory Councils of Social Service, which represent the interests of low income and socially disadvantaged people across Australia, and assists and supports the community sector with the delivery of community services.

The Technology Officer will play a fundamental role regarding Western Australian Council of the support, maintenance and optimisation of WACOSS’ Social Service websites and other IT and technological resources. The main objective of this role is to support WACOSS in all its technology initiatives and to design, develop and maintain the WACOSS ICT infrastructure; Web and applications design and development; develop digital mobile apps for WACOSS' social enterprise DropIN; and manage the organisation's ICT Assets. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will have experience in the above fields preferably within a community services sector setting.

The primary duties will revolve around developing and writing code for the websites and applications requested by DropIN’s clients, troubleshooting, debugging, and providing on-site and phone ICT support to WACOSS’ internal and external clients, maintaining compliance and keeping the organisation up-to-date on all ICT aspects, analysing the organisation’s technology needs and then architecting and developing functional ICT solutions that address those needs. Other duties include supporting DropIN’s Project Officer in the execution of Google and other online marketing campaigns, consulting with WACOSS’ stakeholders to improve systems and services, and creating and delivering training for websites and applications.

Ideally we are looking for a person with capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced and changing work environment and who has experience working in a not-for-profit sector. The following technical skills are an essential requirement for this role. If you do not possess them, you won't be considered for the role:

  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, development and delivery of applications and websites across multiple platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in Search Engine Optimisation
  • Knowledge and experience in the following:
    • Javascript (ES6 / Typescript), Object Oriented PHP, HTML/XHTML, CSS
    • Proficient in SQL and NoSQL database systems such as MySQL/MongoDB
    • Development frameworks (we mainly use Laravel, React, and Node)
    • Server architecture – including cloud based infrastructure (we mainly use AWS and Linux)
    • Atlassian Confluence and Crowd development and administration
    • Experienced in RESTful API design, development and integration
    • Familiar with web related technologies including accessible web technologies (eg: ARIA tags, screen readers)
