Remote / Work from Home
Warrigunya is a Gippsland-based Aboriginal Incorporation (ICN9455) working towards building culturally connected and stronger Aboriginal communities.
We are a newly established organisation who have secured $3.3 million in government funding to build a badly needed transitional indigenous housing and cultural connection facility in South Gippsland for men when they are released.
We will provide a safe place 'our way' for Aboriginal people impacted by the justice and the social system to transition back to their communities in a culturally strong and supported manner.
Warrigunya is a place to reconnect with cultural, spiritual, physical and mental elements of life in a holistic manner in the way of our ancestors and elders of the past and present. We focus on supporting Aboriginal people impacted by the justice and social system to become 'empowered and connected beings'. An empowered and connected being in Aboriginal culture is one who embodies respect and truth and lives a connected way of life in harmony with the community and within themself. The men who attend Warrigunya will become warriors of their culture.
We are looking for board members to further establish and grow the organisation over the next 12 months, more specifically setting up governance and help develop and establish our operational planning, raising funds, appointing staff and generally making people in Industry and governments more aware of Warrigunya.
Warrigunya is in search of a committed, passionate and hard working Director(s) to enable the vision of the organisation to be achieved. The new general Director will work closely with other board members to advise, govern and oversee the strategic direction of Warrigunya and assist with leadership and general promotion of the vision and valves of Warrigunya.
The core responsibilities of the new Director:
In the first 12 months we would require the first meeting and AGM to be in person in south Gippsland, but all other meetings and communication could be virtual, which would suit someone based in Melbourne.
Please note that this is a voluntary position.
Warrigunya is a young organisation and so we are looking for a general director who will be activity engaging and involved in shaping the strategic direction of Warrigunya in accordance with our vision, values and objectives. This will require attendance at all board meetings as well as approximately 2-5 hours a week to carry out necessary tasks. There are a minimum of 8 board meetings per year held every 4-6 weeks. The board meetings can be virtual if covid travel restrictions are in place otherwise they will be held in Gippsland where the majority of board members reside.
If you are passionate about our vision and are interested in this exciting growth phase of Warrigunya we would love to hear from you.
Please note that this is not an identified position, therefore, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people may apply for this role.
