Policy and Program Leads

Watertrust Australia
  • Multiple positions available
  • Location negotiable

We are hiring

Watertrust Australia is a new and resolutely independent not-for-profit with a unique approach to collaborating, building trust and finding common ground on water and catchment policy. We seek to improve how water and catchment policy decisions are made in Australia by focusing on better processes not predetermined outcomes.

Established in 2021, we are now building our capacity to design, deliver and manage our projects, while continuing our extensive engagement with the sector. We offer the opportunity to work in a unique and truly independent organisation with a mission to catalyse systemic change by influencing the way decision-making is undertaken in catchment and water policy, from local to national scale.

About you

We are looking for experienced professionals or emerging talent comfortable remaining independent, avoiding early judgment and staying open to multiple perspectives in highly contested, values-driven policy domains. Successful applicants will have a solid track record of project delivery and management and will be comfortable working in a lean, tight-knit, high-impact organisation with a flat structure and an agile approach to project management.

We aim to attract, hire, and retain the very best talent that reflects Watertrust Australia’s diverse stakeholders, domains and geographies.

The role

We will work with you to define and build a role that matches our requirements and your skills, strengths and passions. We are looking for colleagues to contribute to all aspects of our work from scoping, (co)designing and delivering high-impact projects. Successful applicants will work to build and collaborate with bespoke, high-performing teams contracted to provide the specific skills needed to deliver a diverse portfolio of projects across Australia.

The role includes contributing to strategic planning and goal-setting, participating in convening forums, and deliberative decision-making processes, researching and documenting issues and concerns in water and catchment policy, engaging and building relationships with water and catchment stakeholders, government officials, and communities.

What we offer

We provide a supportive work environment and opportunity to work from our office in Canberra or regularly from home, with options for flexible work arrangements. We provide and encourage ongoing professional development opportunities and access to our employee assistance program. We value and celebrate diversity.
