We exist so that people have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing and our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading-edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

Services for Young People provide transitional support and access to crisis and supported accommodation options for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The service aims to increase the capacity of young people to live independently through: improving access to long term stable and affordable housing; providing assistance with securing income support and connecting young people with a range of social supports.

We are now seeking a Case Worker to join the Casey/Cardinia Services for Young People program.

About the role

The Case Worker will work with young people experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness to address their immediate needs and coordinate housing and support outcomes through a case management approach.

Duties will include:

  • Undertaking a comprehensive needs assessment, planning and delivery of support.
  • Demonstrating through action, a positive regard and commitment to the rights of all young people.
  • Providing practical support that assists young people to achieve their goals.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with key housing and service providers.
  • Facilitating referrals and providing support for young people to access services.
  • Contributing to team processes and forums that support better outcomes.
  • Completing all necessary administration and documentation tasks efficiently and accurately.

About you

We are looking for a passionate, client-focused individual who can work independently and can demonstrate an ability to support young people to reach their potential.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology, Community Services or other relevant discipline at degree level or above.
  • Relevant experience working in the community services sector with young people, with a sound knowledge of the housing and support needs appropriate to them.
  • Demonstrated capability and experience coordinating a caseload and collaborating with clients to manage risk and improve outcomes.
  • Knowledge of relevant theories including adolescent development, strengths based approaches and reflective practice.
  • Sound knowledge of homelessness, with an understanding and commitment to the social and political context of homelessness.
  • Well developed interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improving service delivery and practice.

This role requires a current Driver’s Licence and valid ‘Employment’ category - Working with Children Check Card. The candidate will need to have successfully completed Wayss pre-employment screening and a police check. In accordance with the CHO directions around mandatory vaccinations, Wayss staff who are required to work outside their home to perform their role are required to be fully vaccinated by 26 November 2021 (unless the person is an excepted person). You will be required to confirm your vaccination status prior to interview.
