About the role

Wayss is funded to respond to Victoria Police Family Violence Referrals (L17's) and is the primary Intake and Assessment point for family violence case management. With the establishment of The Orange Door in the Southern Melbourne region, this role will transition to The Orange Door In October 2021.

The position responds to Family Violence Reports (L17’s) by addressing the immediate needs of women and their children experiencing family violence. A point of initial contact and engagement for women and their children seeking support, the position works within a specialist women’s, children and families discipline to provide information, advice and an initial assessment with a focus on risk assessment for those seeking assistance.

Duties include:

  • Identifying, assessing and prioritising the risk and needs of women and children, using the MARAM framework, relevant practice frameworks and guidelines.
  • Identifying housing and social support needs, including assessment of eligibility for other Wayss services.
  • Liaising with the Magistrate’s Court as an advocate and support for the client; Victoria Police regarding the referral and information sharing; and other statutory agencies.
  • Providing referral, liaison and support to access appropriate services and organisations.
  • Attending meetings that support collaboration and the coordination of responses to clients.
  • Providing support to other functions of the Family Violence Response team.
  • Participating in training and development, formal supervision and performance development as per Wayss policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of self and others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and Wayss policies and procedures.

About You

You will have:

  • Professional experience and relevant tertiary qualification(s) in social work, welfare, psychology or a related discipline or a relevant associate diploma level qualification with substantial experience of working with the family violence service stream.
  • Experience working with women and their children and families with complex needs and risk issues within in any of the following service areas: Family Services, Child Protection, Family Violence, Disability, Housing, Mental Health and/or Alcohol and Other Drugs.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess and prioritise the risk and needs of clients in a whole of family approach.
  • Resilience to work with and support clients who have been exposed to trauma
  • The ability to work collaboratively and build strong, authentic and supportive working relationships.
  • The ability to recognise and identify the limits of your own expertise and to seek advice or refer clients to other specialists.
  • A commitment to best practice and work towards the best possible outcomes.

This role requires a current Driver’s Licence and valid ‘Employment’ category - Working with Children Check Card. The candidate will need to have successfully completed Wayss pre-employment screening and a police check.
