About us

Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation. We also provide specialist counselling nationally, through 1800RESPECT.

Our vision is safety, support and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.

About the role

The Practice Lead works across all Crisis Response Programs and reports to the Crisis Response Manager and is responsible for the development of the family violence capability within Crisis Response teams.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing Safe Steps capability in the Victorian MARAM, Information Sharing, Code of Practice and Maram Framework pillars
  • Working in collaboration with the Intake and Assessments managers, Brief Intervention and Supported Accommodation Program Leads to ensure consistent quality practice across programs
  • Ensuring the delivery of high quality and effective service responses for victim survivors seeking support via Safe Steps through the development and delivery of coaching, training, and the development and maintenance of practice tools and frameworks
  • Involvement in stakeholder engagement, managing family violence workflows across Crisis Response Programs and back fill the Safe Steps managers/leads as required

About you

You must be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • Bachelor of Social Work, Social Science or equivalent
  • An understanding of the Victorian Family Violence service system and associated legislation policy and frameworks
  • Experience leading and or developing a team in a complex service delivery environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams effectively in complex situation, providing clear direction, advice and necessary support in day-to-day work and in developing and implementing new process and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement projects scopes and business activities in accordance with strategic aims and operational frameworks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build trust of others, making decisions that are fair to all, empathic and proportionate to the workplace context
  • Ability to motivate and confidently address conflict situations
  • Ability to develop others by actively supporting and providing opportunities and practical assistance in developing skills and capabilities
  • Acting confidently to quickly build rapport with others and provide a sound basis for productive relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Ability to adapt approaches and work to changes in the environment and effectively meet new challenges
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork by cooperating and integrating effectively with the team and work collaboratively to achieve work plans and organisational goals

Desirable

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent)
