  • Band 6 $65,644 - $71,452 per annum (based on 0.8EFT) plus 10% statutory superannuation

Wellington Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our progressive Waste and Sustainability team on a temporary part-time (0.8 EFT) basis.

As the Sustainability Engagement Officer your key focus will be to educate and raise awareness within the community of the importance of effective resource use for the purpose of long-term environmental sustainability within our Shire. By delivering successful communication campaigns, you will administer and undertake key education programs, workshops and events as they relate to the State Government directives around resources recovery including food and green organics (FOGO), glass and E-Waste.

You will actively work with and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including government authorities, waste contractors and community members within our Shire.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement environment and waste education and marketing programs (including digital media and website management) for the organisation and to the wider community including schools and businesses.
  • Administration of grant opportunities in relation to Waste & Sustainability and assistance with the delivery and reporting obligations of grant funded projects.
  • Undertake waste audits; report and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Creation of marketing activities in line with the Wellington Shire Council & Sustainability Victoria education program objectives and strategies.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate a genuine desire in promoting a culture of sustainability and positive behavioural change. You will demonstrate relevant knowledge in the area of environmental and conservation matters and will be able to communicate effectively in an educational environment and demonstrate excellent networking skills.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below:

  • Degree qualified in marketing/communications or substantial relevant (at least 5 years) experience in a similar role relating to design, engagement, marketing and developing effective communications campaigns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate, liaise and engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Practical experience in the creation of meaningful and engaging content for digital media platforms for the purpose of environmental education.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to multi-task, be flexible, set priorities and work under pressure to achieve set deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant digital media platforms (Adobe Creative Suite and design experience would be advantageous)
  • Demonstrated ability to implement procedures, monitor progress, evaluate results and reporting.
