About the program

The Psychosocial Recovery Service (PRS) is a program that exists to provide non-clinical based psychosocial support services to assist people with severe mental illness, resulting in a reduction in psychosocial functional capacity as well as their family and their carers.

About the role

Under the direction of the Team Leader, the role of the Peer Worker is to provide rehabilitation support and will act as a positive role model for program participants and their families in order to overcome stigma and encourage personal development.

This role is unique as it requires someone with a lived experience of mental illness to share their personal experiences of their recovery to engage and empower individuals in their own recovery journey. The Peer Worker will share their experience of mental illness in order to assist participants, their families, clinicians, and the community better understand the participant perspective and to improve outcomes for participants.

What you'll need to be successful in this role:

  • Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in working in a support role for people with mental health issues, generally a Certificate IV qualification or above
  • Lived experience of mental illness
  • Current valid Driver's License and the ability to undertake travel
  • Appropriate IT skills
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Right to Work within Australia
  • Current Police Check
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
  • Evidence of full COVID vaccination or valid medical exemption
