About the program

The Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) is designed to address key areas that support people who have mental health issues, so they can maintain successful tenancies and participate in their communities. This support often results in improvements in their quality of life and most importantly, assists in their recovery from mental illness. A key outcome of the program will be supporting the participant to identify and nurture natural supports that sustain recovery, and to assist in the development of self-management skills.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Recovery and Rehabilitation Worker to join our supportive team here at Wellways Australia. Reporting to the Coordinator & Team Leader of HASI South Western Sydney, you will work with the team and other key internal and external stakeholders and provide direct support to participants and carers within the Wellways practice frameworks.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engage participants and develop professional and trusting relationships that help find and maintain hope
  • Work with participants to identify areas of need, using key assessment and outcomes measurement tools
  • Support participants, their care team and their family in progressing their Individual Recovery Plans
  • Encourage linkages into a range of activities to support achievement of goals
  • Work alongside Recovery and Family Services Program workers and participants
  • Ensure all operational and administrative requirements are met including regular reporting requirements and records maintenance

About You

You're calm, collected and resilient in the face of adversity and are looking to carry these qualities with you to the front line to start helping those in need. You are an independent, proactive thinker and worker but are also able to follow direction/s given by your managers and can work within a tight-knit team. You have strong people and communication skills, and have a flair for administration tasks.

What do you need?

  • ESSENTIAL: Certificate IV in Health/Mental Health, and/or Diploma/Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or able to demonstrate working toward these qualifications
  • ESSENTIAL : Demonstrated experience/knowledge in working with people with mental health issues
  • Experience in building long lasting partnerships in the community while working in collaboration with other external services
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
  • Experience in working with diverse groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) people, refugee groups and LGBTIQ groups will be highly regarded
  • A current and valid Driver's License
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check [less than 12 months old] and Working with Children Check, prior to commencement
  • NDIS Workers Screening Check and NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
  • Evidence of full COVID-19 Booster vaccination or valid medical exemption
