WestCASA is a community based not-for-profit sexual assault, family violence and trauma counselling service operating in the western metropolitan region of Melbourne for over 30 years. WestCASA provides counselling, a crisis response, advocacy, education and training and is located in Werribee, with outreach to Footscray, Melton and the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC, a women’s prison) at Ravenhall.

The successful applicant will provide counselling to people who experience sexual assault and related family violence and other trauma within the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre. The role will also take intake calls and undertake assessments for clients within DPFC who have experienced sexual assault and related family violence trauma either recently or in the past, to enable access to our service. Though the role will predominantly be based at the DPFC, on occasion there may be a requirement to attend WestCASA’s counselling services at Werribee, Footscray and Melton.

Our staff receive regular clinical supervision and support through the Clinical Services Team and access to professional development both as part of a team and as an individual. WestCASA is known for its strong commitment to providing a learning environment and support for staff in their growth and development in this area of work. It supports staff to develop capacities in relation to knowledge of current research and best practice in responding to complex trauma.

We provide services within a feminist and rights-based framework.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to and understanding of the personal and political issues surrounding sexual assault & family violence. You will have experience or a strong interest in working with complex trauma in a therapeutic environment. You will be an excellent communicator, able to work independently and contribute to a resilient team.
