About the role

The role of the Community Mental Health Worker/Peer Worker is to provide psychosocial and recovery support in partnership with clients, families/carers and other community services to maximise personal recovery, health and wellbeing and social inclusion for young people and adults living with a mental illness. There is flexibility for this role to be undertaken both part time (4 days) or full time, from sites located in Kensington, Parkville and Sunshine.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant experience or a lived experience of mental health and an experience of mental health recovery.
  • Experience working in community mental health with clients who present with a high level of complexity, vulnerability and disadvantage.
  • Ability to work in a complex and changing environment with accountability to clients, teams and management.
  • Understanding of challenges people with mental illness and their families face with along with recovery models of care, psychosocial support, youth developmental frameworks, and best practice evidence-based interventions.
  • Ability to work in a strengths-based framework to facilitate client choice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the team and a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of quality services.
  • Outstanding ability to respectfully seek and utilise client-centred recovery oriented secondary consultation with Peer Community Mental Health Workers.
