Growing First Nations Business

White Box Enterprises understands that building local enterprise and backing long-term livelihoods strategies are critical to improving community health, well-being and economic strength in First Nations communities.

In partnership with First Nations Entrepreneurs, we aim to:

  • Create meaningful, sustained employment and career pathways for young Indigenous Australians.
  • Grow resilient, financially viable Indigenous-owned enterprise that brings quality products and services to its customers.
  • Support the creation of measurable Indigenous-led impact including regional economic benefit, social and environmental outcomes.
  • Foster an enabling environment for the growth of connected, well-supported Indigenous enterprises.

Our targets are to enable:

  • 45 new jobs by end FY24 with 5 Indigenous enterprises
  • 215 new jobs by FY26 with 7 Indigenous enterprises
  • Sustained, measurable social and environmental outcomes

We are currently working with social enterprises in North Queensland delivering new products and services in the environmental services, tourism, science research and agricultural sectors.

First Nations Business Coordinator

We are recruiting a First Nations Business Coordinator to lead engagement with our growing portfolio of First Nations business partners.

The First Nations Business Coordinator will work with local Indigenous entrepreneurs to build and maintain local social enterprise. In time, this will involve working with local business operators to establish a First Nations Business Hub in North Queensland. The purpose of this position is to work with local communities to create new, meaningful jobs for Indigenous youth through the development of strong First Nations enterprises.

The objectives of this role are to:

  • Actively support WBE First Nations business partners to thrive through improved access to networks, training, support and experiences.
  • Build market opportunities for WBE First Nations business partners.
  • Grow a connected, supported community of First Nations entrepreneurs in North Queensland.

Role Responsibilities

The First Nations Business Coordinator will work closely with First Nations business partners to understand their plans and priorities, then find creative and effective ways to support them.

The First Nations Business Coordinator will:

  • Work closely with WBE First Nations business partners to provide access to:
    • WBE capability and services
    • Customers and markets
    • Training, industry experiences, mentoring and other support
    • Local and sector networks and industry groups
    • Funding / finance opportunities
    • Information relevant to the growth of their businesses
  • Actively assist partners implement business activity.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration between the entrepreneurs.
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships that create new opportunities and an enabling environment for the enterprises e.g. participation in regional and state chambers of commerce and industry, business incubators and accelerators, QLD Tourism Industry Council.
  • Work closely with WBE First Nations business partners to support the communication and reporting of their progress and impact to WBE stakeholders, and other key stakeholders identified by the entrepreneurs.
  • Identify, create and foster new regional collaborations, partnerships and initiatives that strengthen Indigenous enterprise in Far North Queensland.
  • Facilitate promotion of the enterprises including access to media and other profile-raising opportunities.
  • Provide advocacy support for the enterprises, especially on matters of common focus or concern.
