The White Ribbon Australia movement works through a primary prevention approach in communities, schools and workplaces across the country.

Our focus is on mobilising men, boys and communities to take become active in the social change needed to end men’s violence against women.

In May 2020, White Ribbon Australia was acquired by Communicare, a Western Australian for-purpose organisation, and launched with new campaigns that focus on community engagement.

The Role

The Manager of Community Projects will be responsible for coordinating local primary prevention activities in targeted communities across Australia, aimed at addressing gender inequality and domestic, family and sexual violence.

This project is funded over two years by the Australian Government Department of Social Services and will be delivered as part of the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022.

The objective of this project is to use White Ribbon Australia’s Community Action Group model to expand community understanding of men’s violence against women and to develop community-specific responses to advance gender equality and prevent men’s violence against women. This will include a clear focus on preventing sexual violence, sexual harassment and consent.

This position will lead five Primary Prevention Officers to work with White Ribbon Community Action Groups to develop and implement community-led, co-designed Community Response Plans and provide training, tools, support and resources including education on stakeholder engagement, advocacy, primary prevention and community consultation to address the unique culture, circumstance and challenges of each community.

The position has responsibility for providing operational and strategic support to the Senior Manager Community Engagement. This role has work from home arrangements and will require regular inter and instate travel in line with COVID-19 restrictions.

Selection Criteria

The position requires:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social policy, social work, community engagement or equivalent work-based experience.
  • Demonstrated success in grassroots community organising.
  • A highly developed knowledge and understanding of men’s violence against women and the role of primary prevention in addressing family, domestic and sexual violence.
  • Experience leading a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
  • Proven ability to establish and sustain effective relationships and partnerships with services and organisations, both government and non-government.
  • Experience in community services or the not-for-profit sector.
  • Ability to provide comprehensive support to the development and implementation of program operations
  • Willingness to work outside of hours and travel inter and intra State on a regular basis.
  • Satisfactory Police clearance (not older than 6 months from the issue date)
  • Unrestricted drivers’ licence
  • Working With Children Check
