Roses in the Ocean exists to save lives and reduce emotional distress and pain.
They do this by innovating and transforming suicide prevention and driving and delivering system reform through the expertise of people with lived experience of suicide. They support organisations and government to engage and integrate lived experience expertise effectively and meaningfully.
Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’
An opportunity exists to join Australia’s leading lived experience of suicide organisation as they continue to develop the emerging suicide prevention peer workforce in Victoria, NSW and Queensland. We are seeking people with a lived experience of suicide who have experience in formal peer worker roles to join their expanding team of suicide prevention Peer Mentors and Peer Educators.
Successful applicants will hold either Intentional Peer Support Certification and/or a Certificate IV in Peer Work and suicide prevention training such as ASIST and have the desire and additional capacity to devote at least 4 days per month to Roses in the Ocean for both on-line and face-to-face support.
Roses in the Ocean Peer Mentors will be trained to facilitate structured solutions-focussed conversations in individual peer mentoring and group co-reflection sessions with Suicide Prevention Peer Workers to provide independent support and professional development.
This would be a perfect role for either an existing peer mentor or a peer worker who has experience supporting people impacted by suicide and is looking to use their experience and knowledge to support others in the profession in a part-time or casual role.
Roses in the Ocean Peer Educators will be trained to deliver a highly interactive professional development program for Suicide Prevention Peer Workers, drawing on their knowledge of peer values, principles and approaches.
This would be a perfect role for an existing peer educator or a peer worker who has experience facilitating training, speaking in a public forum or facilitating discussions in groups.
