Women’s Legal Service WA is a not for profit community legal centre funded to provide free legal services for women in Western Australia. We work to redress inequalities in the legal system that adversely and disproportionately affect vulnerable women by providing quality information and expert assistance in family law, child protection and compensation for criminal injuries matters. We focus on victims and survivors of family and domestic violence.

Reporting to the CEO, the Finance and Operations Manager is an integral part of the WLSWA leadership team. Responsible for providing financial, operational and corporate oversight to WLSWA, this is a position that requires dynamic management and a breadth of technical skills.

The Finance and Operations Manager is responsible for finance and accounting, IT, HR including WH&S, risk management, office management and project management functions.

We are looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic person. Taking initiative, problem solving and a ‘can do, will do’ attitude will ensure the position holder is empowered to work autonomously. The successful applicant will support gender equality through which we assist women and share our passion for their education and empowerment within the legal system to reshape and improve outcomes in their lives.

The core responsibilities of the role include:

Leadership

  • Provide advice and direction in relation to financial and operational issues and corporate governance to the CEO.
  • Work closely with the CEO, PLO and team to foster an environment of continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Ensure WLSWA appropriately plans its current and future activities, represented in plans, budgets and forecasts.
  • Coordinate HR and WH&S matters to assist ensuring WLSWA has the people and organisational capabilities to succeed and meet WLSWA’s strategy and goals.

Finance

  • Manage the financial operations of WLSWA, ensuring records are maintained in accordance with relevant standards and regulatory practices and.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the annual operational budget in line with WLSWA strategic and operational plans, in consultation with the CEO and Board.
  • Support the outsourced finance function including processing payroll, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls over financial activities are implemented and operating effectively.
  • Provide advice mitigating and managing risk and financial exposures.
  • Support the Treasurer in preparing monthly financial reporting to the Board, reporting to funders and documents for year-end audit.
  • Liaise with Finance & Operations and Audit & Risk Sub Committees as required.

Operations

  • Maintain internal policies and procedures associated with operations, governance, finance and other risk management activities.
  • Oversee compliance and regulatory activities across the organisation to ensure WLSWA meets its statuary obligations.
  • Coordinate the effective implementation and maintenance of IT systems and support including IT solutions, innovations and improvements in hardware and software, as required.
  • Oversee the implementation of effective and efficient HR practices and provide advice, guidance and support to CEO on all aspects of human resources, including legislation, award levels, performance management, staff reviews and grievances, and preparation of employment documents.
  • Assist in the design and ongoing execution of WLSWA marketing strategy including ensuring the integrity WLSWA branding and maintenance of social media sites/website.
  • Assist in identifying and preparing funding submissions, marketing material and other WLSWA resources as required
  • Coordinate key events, including AGM and corporate events, when required.
  • Lead and assist recruiting and coordinating volunteers as required.
  • Monitor and manage grant reporting activities, including submission of reports to funders.
  • General office, administration and property management.
  • Other duties as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
