ABOUT WOMEN’S LIBERATION HALFWAY HOUSE (WLHH)

Established in 1974, WLHH was the first women’s refuge in the state of Victoria. WLHH remains an independent, non-secular, feminist organisation. WLHH provides individual support, crisis accommodation, information, referral and advocacy to women and their children who are escaping family violence. The service is underpinned by an intersectional feminist understanding of domestic/family violence, which recognises gender inequality as the primary driver of violence against women and their children and upholds women’s right to live free of all forms of violence and abuse. WLHH supports women to re-establish control of their own lives and keep their children safe.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

With an established reputation in the sector, a new core and cluster refuge in development and a motivated and committed team, WLHH is well positioned to build on existing strengths and progress new strategic directions. Based on the current Board composition and current organisational priorities, we are seeking Board members for a 3-year term.

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings (evening weekday meetings, the dates of which are agreed upon my all Board members, currently via zoom)

  • Prepare prior to all meetings
  • Actively participate in the decision-making process in relation to governance, finance and strategic planning
  • Demonstrate commitment to the ongoing independence and feminist governance of WLHH
  • Adhere to ethical ways of working
  • Complete a national police check and a Victorian Working with Children check
