about us

Warddeken Land Management was established in 2007 by Nawarddeken elders, whose vision was to see healthy people living and working on their healthy country in the kuwarddewardde (stone country of Western Arnhem Land).

An exciting opportunity exists for the right candidate to join our team and work alongside traditional owners to achieve this vision as Warddeken’s Chief Executive Officer.

The Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area covers 14,000 square kilometres of rugged sandstone escarpments, including the Northern Territory’s most biodiverse environments. The region is exceptional in its natural and cultural values, and breathtaking in its beauty. The lifestyle in this extraordinarily remote part of the world is unique, and the work challenging yet rewarding.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Warddeken is well resourced, stable and is enjoying a prolonged growth trajectory. The Company now seeks to recruit an intelligent, energetic, highly disciplined and innovative CEO capable of sustaining Warddeken’s success and reputation.

The successful applicant must have impeccable professional and personal values, high level written and verbal communication skills, be flexible and adaptable and possess the ability to effectively work with the Warddeken Board to develop and implement strategic direction and sound policies.

The new CEO must have genuine respect for Indigenous people and culture, experience in managing a remote Indigenous organisation, a high-level understanding of carbon farming and considerable expertise in obtaining government grants. Warddeken’s philanthropic partner, the Karrkad Kanjdji Trust, provides considerable ongoing support to the Company and the people of the stone country and is a critical relationship for the CEO.

This is a full-time position based in Darwin, but requires the CEO to spend at least one week per month on country at one of Warddeken’s IPA ranger bases. You must therefore be in good health and be prepared to work remotely and independently, hold a valid drivers licence and be willing to undertake travel in extremely remote locations by 4WD, light aircraft and helicopter. Applicants must have the ability to obtain an NT Ochre Card.
