Woodville Alliance (WA) is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Western Sydney and working primarily in Fairfield, Bankstown, Auburn and Liverpool. PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

Strong Minds is a community based Program that provides case management support of non-clinical mental health services and evidence
based therapeutic group interventions. It is based on a ‘family systems theory of change’, supporting the child or young person by working with them and where appropriate their family and significant others on strategies to enhance well being, mental health and
address issues before they escalate. Strong Minds works in the communities of Fairfield, Auburn and Merrylands - Guildford.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Provide early intervention support, short and long term case management support, for children, young people and their families who suffer or are at risk of suffering from mental illness
  • Facilitate Child and Youth focused, non-clinical and evidence-based groups in order to develop capacity, educate, help identify and de-stigmatise mental health issues
  • Provide engagement services and develop partnerships with stakeholders to reach difficult to access families
  • Work within a client-centred, trauma-informed framework that is culturally appropriate
  • Contribute to the development, continuous quality improvement and evaluation of family support strategies with young people by keeping up to date on research and best practice and participating in supervision

ESSENTIAL

  1. Degree level qualifications in the areas of Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Health or equivalent
  2. Minimum 5 years’ experience working with children and/or young people with mental illness and demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues, child protection and/or child and family issues, particularly in an early intervention context
  3. Practical experience in providing group work therapeutic interventions (non-clinical), practical assistance and case management, to children and young people with or at risk of mental illness and child and family issues
  4. Experience in the delivery of early intervention mental health strategies and case management support to culturally and linguistically diverse communities and an understanding of the diverse needs of clients.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  6. Current Australian Driver’s Licence, current and verified Working with Children Check and National Police Check
