About Us

Located centrally in the Parramatta CBD and the NSW Hunter Region, the Workers Health Centre (WHC) is a Non-for-Profit Organisation in business since 1976, building services and investing in the interests of injured workers and their families. We provide transparent, systematic injury management and return to work rehabilitation services for injured workers. The WHC is a proud affiliate of the Trade Union movement. Our Board encompasses Trade Union representatives from various blue- and white-collar Trade Unions across NSW.

Role Description

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide onsite leadership to ensure operations, strategic and financial objectives and funding requirements of the WHC are met in line with Board requirements to meet Board expectations.

Key functions of the CEO position include building and maintaining a positive culture across the organisation, developing and mentoring staff, developing and implementing policy and procedures and maintaining the financial viability of the organisation. The CEO will be required to identify potential sources of funding including grants and provide appropriate reporting to meet grant-funding requirements. Research and development play a critical role in the success and credibility of the WHC – the CEO is required to undertake sourcing of potential research funding and potential research partners.

Day to day functions of the CEO includes preparing meeting documents, preparing executive level reporting, meeting with and mentoring staff, providing information, training and instruction to staff, preparing agendas, partaking in payroll functions and liaising with account management, liaising with building management, supplier management and website administration, negotiating worker contracts, and providing general monthly reports.

As the CEO, you will be required to learn and have an intimate understanding of the business and the WHC Service Delivery Model, and undertake activities in continuous improvement and quality management systems within the Centre.

As the CEO, you will develop working relationships with stakeholders, including:

Trade Unions and Unions NSW, by way of;

  • Attending conferences and coordinate the provision of health checks;
  • Liaise with trade unions for any growth potential;
  • Encourage unaffiliated unions to affiliate with the WHC.

Government departments, having regular reporting and compliance responsibilities and communication with;

  • SIRA;
  • ICARE;
  • ACNC; and
  • Western Sydney Local Health District.

Organisations concerned with Workers Compensation & Rehabilitation services, such as;

  • Insurers/Claims Service Providers;
  • Legal firms;
  • Medical practitioners; and
  • ARPA.

Essential Selection Criteria

Experience

A well established and respected leader with strong communication, financial and business acumen, strong business ethics and integrity and executive experience in managing a team. Experience in managing a non for profit in the best interest of clients and members would be highly beneficial.

Required Competencies

  • Tertiary qualification/s and experience with an on going commitment for professional development;
  • Qualifications and / or experience in adult training and education;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principals of trade unionism and the labor movement;
  • Advanced executive level written and oral communication skills;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the scope of workers compensation rehabilitation and / or work health and safety;
  • An understanding of the NSW workers compensation scheme and work health and safety legislation;
  • An understanding of rehabilitation operation and SIRA compliance;
  • An understanding of the current industrial relations environment;
  • Knowledge and experience of human resources, human resources processes, best practice and contemporary employment laws;
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills and experience as a CEO or senior team leader leading a non for profit or related entity;
  • Significant stakeholder management and engagement skills and an ability to navigate change and provide strategic leadership;
  • Drive and ambition to improve processes and efficiencies; and
  • Knowledge and experience in finance operations, planning, reporting, governance, as well as other key operational support functions.
