Head of Fragile States & Humanitarian

The position

We have a rare opportunity for a seasoned operational leader to join the World Vision Australia (WVA) team to make a difference in the most Fragile and Very Low Developing Contexts and to ensure WVA is contributing to impact in global emergency response. As the Head of Fragile States and Humanitarian, you will clearly demonstrate a credible account of change with our field for our supporter segments.

Your areas of responsibility include;

  • Operational responsibility for WVA Disaster Management (DM), Crisis Response and provide leadership for category three (CAT III) Global and SHE Responses in developing countries in conjunction with the World Vision International disaster management team
  • Provide mentoring/support/leadership to our Country Impact Managers/Officers for management of Humanitarian programming in Developing Countries
  • Operational responsibility for World Food Program (WFP); Oversight of WFP portfolio and negotiations with the disaster management team as required
  • Rapid Deployment: management of the WVA Surge Roster and oversight of training/capability and deploy rapidly for senior response management in a CAT III Global.
  • Contribute strategically and operationally as a member of the Fragile & Very Low Developing Contexts leadership team, ensuring engagement into the partnership at an exec level
  • Fully engage in evidence with the WVA impact hub team to ensure a credible account for change
  • Management of Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Support Unit relationship (focal point for WVA) and Lead in the event Emergency AHP activations

Who we’re looking for

As an inspirational leader in the Humanitarian context, you will have demonstrated understanding of humanitarian coordination mechanisms and donor landscape. You will have a strong understanding of the international humanitarian system and organisations with demonstrated in-country experience in Emergency Response Management.

In addition to this your skills, attributes, and experience will include;

  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications: may include humanitarian, or equivalent experience in a relevant role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of humanitarian principles, disaster management cycle, project cycle and relevant technical and accountability standards within the industry including EMS and DMS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of International Response standards including CHS, Sphere, ICRC Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrated program and project management experience, including large and complex grant acquisition and management
  • Partnering with government or multilateral agencies, including leading a key relationship
  • Building successful collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven experience in humanitarian sector, including in fragile contexts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
