Project Facilitator - West Kimberley Youth Development Program

The project facilitator role will focus on mentoring, managing and supporting the community leaders to deliver youth development program in two separate communities within the West Kimberley Youth Development Program. The role will support the long-term development of male Australian First Nations and Torres Strait staff (IMPACT Club Leaders) and young people in Mowanjum and Derby, WA.

 Work in community will include:

  • Supporting local level partnerships, connecting and learning with community members to assist in delivering successful youth programs
  • Develop and mentor local male IMPACT Club Leaders to develop their confidence and skills to;
    • Create a core group of IMPACT Club members (males aged 11-17 years).
    • Build-up IMPACT Club members to work-together (strengthen individual and group identity) and improve their community (community projects).
    • Support IMPACT Club members to learn new things and take on new opportunity through weekly-club meetings, projects, and other activities like bush-camps.
    • Collect data regularly, like permission and attendance forms.
  • You will also be responsible for ongoing recruitment of local staff and their development, as well as developing policies and processes to ensure staff and youth engagement in the program and also safety.
  • Weekly planning meetings with club leaders to help plan for the sessions they deliver with youth, making sure they have the required resources.

Who we are looking for:

  • Previous  experience working with remote Australian First Nations communities in a development context
  • Solid understanding of Australian First Nations culture and traditions
  • Proven capability to successfully engage with community leaders in a similar capacity
  • Facilitation, mentoring, training, coaching, supervising or teaching young people experience
  • Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict
  • Completion of Year 12 Secondary School or equivalent e.g. TAFE Diploma
  • Good understanding of, and a firm commitment to, community development processes, gender equity, participatory approaches and development theory

What you need to know…

This role is a full time fixed term opportunity until May 2022 and will be based in our office in Derby, WA. This role requires regular travel to remote communities.
