The position

The Kimberley Regional Program Manager would be accountable for supporting Kimberley based project teams to successfully implement community development projects, to engage and develop regional networks, relationships and partnerships with First Nations organisations and communities and contribute to improved impact for families and children.  This leadership role would also be responsible for the development and implementation of a Kimberley Regional Area Plan and would work with the West Australia Partnership and Business Development Advisor to support broader WVA fundraising activities to engage our supporters of Western Australian projects

Your role plays an integral part in the organisation, enabling us to support our vision of empowering Australians to create meaningful change in partnership with First Nations communities and families.  

In addition to this you will:

  • Ensure that Projects and Project Managers deliver project activities as per donor and WVA requirements and in line with approved annual implementation plan and approved budgets for projects
  • Lead, create and support a harmonious Derby office culture and working environment
  • Represent WVA at relevant Derby and Kimberley level stakeholder meetings and forum and work activities to build opportunities for shared projects and collaboration
  • Actively contribute to development of high-quality grants submissions and designs 
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Program Management and Effectiveness, undertake feasibility assessments for new project work and broker new project funding and operational set up arrangements
  • Support Project Managers to ensure all operational aspects of regional projects (Risk, Legal, Property, OH&S, P&C) are compliant with WV policies and issues arising are responded to in a timely and effective manner

Contract role based in Derby until November 2023, Remote allowance and relocation assistance provided, 5 weeks’ leave each year.

Who we’re looking for 

We are looking for someone with proven leadership skills and qualities who has a real positive community development approach.

You will have:

  • Excellent written and highly effective verbal communication skills and ability to use these to engage and influence a broad range of stakeholders
  • Experience leading diverse work teams to collaboratively work together and produce outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience working in the Australia First Nations
  • Excellent understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Western Australia
  • Understanding of West Australia First Nations policy and programming areas, specifically in relation to children and youth.
  • Established relationships within the West Australia development sector and with remote Aboriginal communities 
  • Background in providing team, project and strategy leadership within complex environments  
  • Experience brokering and maintaining successful funding agreements and collaborations with Government agencies and Aboriginal organisations 
  • Qualifications in social services, community development or related disciplines
