Yuendumu Early Learning Centre Director

We have an exciting opportunity for an Early Learning Centre Director to lead and manage the early learning program within the Kurdu-Kurdu Kurlangu Child Care Centre in the remote community of Yuendumu, NT. World Vision Australia is working in partnership with the Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) to re-build and deliver the childcare service for Warlpiri families in Yuendumu after a period of low utilisation and closure. The role operates in a full time fixed term contract until June 2023.

Reporting to the Early Childhood Care and Development Project Manager, your role will be to ensure that the program responds to the particular strengths and interests of Warlpiri children; the goals and aspirations of the local community and builds the capacity of a local early childhood workforce. The Child Care Centre is operational 7 hours a day for 48 weeks a year and delivers quality early childhood program in line with the national quality standards.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Implementation of the Early Learning Program – ensuring it is a welcoming and open space created for the local community.
  • Contextualisation and implementation of the Early Years Learning Framework, the Abecedarian Approach Australia (3A) and the National Quality Standards.
  • Build capacity in the local workforce - Provide mentoring, coaching and support to local early childhood educators in the implementation of the 3A and ‘both ways’ learning principles and practices.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners and internal stakeholders – Build strong collaborative relationships with the Yuendumu Early Childhood Reference Group, Child and Family Centre Co-ordinator, WYDAC with other service providers
  • Providing data and stories of impact on the project to be shared with the Program Development and Effectiveness Team and Contribute to communication materials that enable reporting back to communities, supporters and donors.

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Early childhood program design and implementation including understanding of both ways learning principles and practices
  • Demonstrated professional experience in implementing best practice in community led early childhood programs
  • Considerable experience supporting engagement and participation of families and services
  • Degree qualification in Early Childhood Education
  • Understanding of integrated service delivery approaches
  • Understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Central Australia 
  • Desirable: Demonstrated professional experience working with remote Aboriginal communities in a development context
