The role

We are looking for a confident and hands-on HR Advisor to join our diverse and passionate team based at our conveniently located office in St Leonards. This truly generalist role proactively supports World Animal Protection teams across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the APAC region.

We take flexibility seriously and are currently operating on a hybrid model where full-time team members are joining us in the office 3 days per week with the rest of their time working from home. Our core office hours are 10am to 4pm so this means if you have other commitments like needing to do school drop off/pick up we can work in with your availability.

This role is ideal for someone who cares about making a difference and positively influencing culture. Your exceptional recruitment, communications and organisational skills and ability to adapt and change with energy and enthusiasm will allow you to make your mark on the ANZ team and APAC region.

Reporting to the Country Director with a dotted line to the HR Business Partner – APAC, you will be responsible for improving employee experience at all levels by providing expertise and advice across all aspects of HR and contributing to and implementing key HR strategies and projects. You will be an integral part of the ANZ Senior Management Team and the International HR team based in the APAC region. You will be acting as first point of contact for all HR queries from our ANZ staff, and assisting with contract management, administration and reporting for International staff based in the region. The second focus of this role (consisting of approximately 20% of time each week) is supporting recruitment and HR activity across the entire APAC region.

A normal day in this role will give you the opportunity to use your broad generalist skills and could include recruitment, coaching and providing day to day support to managers on people issues such as engagement/general HR policy/legislation, performance management and appraisal, L&D and facilitation, policy development, reporting and analysis, EDI, surveys, compensation, onboarding, WHS, and termination process including redundancies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing timely and professional generalist HR advice to employees and leaders at all levels
  • Participate as a member of the ANZ Senior Management Team (SMT). Contribute to the development of the business strategy, and identify and advise on associated people implications
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders and providing proactive coaching and upskilling to leaders
  • Managing the end-to-end recruitment process in conjunction with the relevant Country Director, People Managers, Global Recruitment Team, HRBP, external recruitment agencies and teams. Ensuring the ideal candidate is attracted, selected and appointed, and that a great candidate and hiring manager experience is provided.
  • Managing the entire employee lifecycle to continuously improve the employee experience and equip our teams to effectively deliver organisational outcomes
  • Collaborate with the Global & Country HR teams in the delivery of HR initiatives, projects and annual activities
  • Maintain HR databases and reports and provide relevant analysis and suggestions
  • Develop and contribute to the review, implementation, creation and monitoring of People related policies
  • Coordination of L&D, engagement surveys, performance review processes and talent development including coordination and facilitation of L&D sessions as required
  • Create and execute people and culture strategies that support the achievement of business objectives and nurture an engaged and motivated working environment
  • Develop, manage and implement people and culture initiatives and projects as required

The Ideal candidate will be able to bring:

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum 4 years' demonstrated experience of working in a relevant HR advisory/generalist/consultancy role including demonstrated experience in recruitment, upskilling managers, performance management, L&D, Work Health & Safety, and administration
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Australian (and ideally New Zealand) labour and Health & Safety law, regulations and best practices
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in HR (e.g. university degree, TAFE Cert IV, AHRI CPHR/Professional Diploma, CIPD) or equivalent experience
  • Australian Return to Work Coordinator Certification and workers compensation claim management experience
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to earn trust and credibility across all levels of the organisation
  • Knowledge of Australian (and ideally NZ) payroll administration, superannuation/kiwisaver and other statutory requirements
  • Willingness to be hands-on with the ability to work autonomously, flexibly and with minimal supervision
  • Advanced IT competence including advanced Microsoft Office and experience administering HRIS systems

Desirable Criteria:

  • AU & NZ Payroll management experience
  • Demonstrated HR experience supporting APAC client groups, with experience in Thailand, China, India, Indonesia and Philippines being highly regarded
  • Training & Assessment (TAA) certification
  • Experience working in not-for-profit organisations
