Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities. Services include acute and general care, chronic disease, Women’s & Children health, men’s health, alcohol and other drugs, social and emotional wellbeing and client support services.
The Tackling Indigenous Smoking program is a part of the Wurli Strategic plan and vision to develop and deliver a holistic approach to health across all areas of the organisation for the Katherine CommunityThe Tackling Indigenous Smoking Addiction Counsellor will be required to work collaboratively across the Primary Health Care and Community Services sectors of our business to provide effective harm reduction, cessation and education regarding tobacco use to our people. This role will be responsible for providing a culturally sensitive approach and assistance to our clients in order to improve their social and emotional wellbeing. Key components of the role are to provide culturally safe therapeutic counselling to assist individuals in ceasing smoking and addressing other complex physical, social and emotional issues.
We are looking for a non-smoker who has a Diploma of Counselling or equivalent tertiary qualification and preferably previous experience with Smoking Cessation Counselling and previous experience working with Indigenous Communities.
