The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation is a Registered Aboriginal Party and we hold responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage objects and places in Victoria.

Additional services we provide include: environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, and cultural consultations.

The Role

The Research Assistant will support the Research & Design Unit’s work and projects by assisting with data collection and the preparation of technical reports as directed.

The Research & Design Unit is responsible for creating robust and accessible Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung cultural knowledge base. The Unit utilises this knowledge base to inform cultural values studies, cultural heritage and anthropological reports, consultations, and other functions of the Wurundjeri Corporation.

Other duties will include:

  • Assist in the collection and safekeeping of cultural information from Elders, archival material, and other sources.
  • Provide administrative support including accurate data entry and report preparation.
  • Assist in the coordination of and attendance at project workshops, meetings, and on-country visits as required.
  • Maintaining an accessible and well organised catalogue of research materials.
  • Locating, reviewing and summarising relevant ethnohistorical sources (published and unpublished).
  • Transcription of audio recordings.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience as a team administrator providing administrative and customer support.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft 365 Office Suite.
  • The ability to conduct duties in a confidential and culturally sensitive manner.
  • The ability to manage tasks with limited supervision.
  • A positive ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • The ability to build effective and long-lasting working relationships.
  • Tertiary qualification/s in anthropology, Indigenous studies and/or equivalent level of professional experience will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be highly regarded.
