Student Support Officer

Yalari Ltd

Yalari is seeking a Student Support Officer on a permanent part-time basis to work with our Yalari scholarship students at The Anglican Church School (Churchie), for 17.5 hours per week.

Yalari provides boarding school scholarships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from regional, rural and remote areas of Australia to study at leading independent boarding schools. It is our belief that education is the key to generational change and a brighter future for Indigenous children.

the role

Student Support Officers (SSO’s) work directly with scholarship recipients by forming supportive bonds with each child and by facilitating effective relationships between students, parents/guardians and partner schools. Please note that the majority of this work will be after school, evenings and weekends and requires some flexibility.

Reporting to Yalari Head Office on the Gold Coast, you will work as part of a remote team and need the ability to form a home office, and travel to our partner school to start your shifts. This role requires travel to the Gold Coast five times a year: four 2-day workshops, and a 5-day orientation camp for new students each January.

about you

You will hold a minimum diploma-level qualification in Community Services, Teaching, Teaching Support or other relevant area of expertise along with demonstrated experience working with young people.

Experience working specifically with Indigenous young people and families, young people in challenging situations, the independent school system and/or boarding schools would be advantageous to potential candidates.

You will also have proven experience in maintaining case management files and be proficient in using MS Office and online file sharing systems.

Student Support Officers are integral to the success of our scholarship program. The right candidate will have proven communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills. We are seeking someone who has a good sense of humour, a can-do attitude, and an ability to quickly build rapport with Yalari team members, students, families, and school staff.

You will have full rights to work in Australia and live locally to the partner school allocated to the role.
