Youth, Family and Community Connections Inc. is a local Not-For-Profit Community Organisation providing a range of health and wellbeing services for young people, families and communities throughout the Northwest Coast of Tasmania.

We are seeking applications for the position of Project Detour – Detour Coach, to work within our employment services team.

The two positions available are based in Devonport or Burnie, aiming to provide early intervention activity that seeks to improve the current and future circumstances of participants through youth tailored training, education and employment opportunities – opportunities that will empower young people to choose a more positive future and refocus away from engaging in criminal activity.

The target participant group for this project is young people aged 16-24 who are unemployed or under-employed and at risk of becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system.

The key activities of Project Detour include:

  • Case management and case coordination to address a wide range of participant’s barriers to employment, education and training.
  • Developing participant’s work readiness through soft skills training
  • Providing networking opportunities for participants with local employers, community, police and other key stakeholders.
  • Identification and coordination of work placement opportunities for participants.

The person we are looking for will be engaging and articulate, have a minimum Cert IV in a relevant field and previous experience in supporting young people into employment, training and/or education.

YFCC is a child safe organisation. All applicants must provide a current Driver’s Licence, National Police check, Working with Vulnerable People Registration, Qualification records and current Referees. Applicants must also be willing to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical.

For the successful applicant the remuneration package includes:

  • Salary in accordance with of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 commencing at Level 4.
