About the role

The Y NSW is looking for a media, public relations and integrated communications hero. You will be a wordsmith champion and media relations gun who thrives on promoting the inspiring stories of our sport and recreation centres, camps, youth and community programs, and childcare services. You will also be passionate about engaging customers through multichannel communications, managing issues and defending the Y’s reputation.

The Senior Communications Advisor is an integral part of the Y NSW’s Corporate Affairs team. This is a small but busy and high-performing team tasked with building the brand, reputation, and story of the Y NSW. The successful candidate will be work closely with key stakeholders including the CEO, Executive Leaders, the Y’s Product and Marketing team and People & Culture team. The role reports directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs.

A typical day at the Y for you will be:

  • Operating state-wide, coordinating, planning, and executing communications for the Y NSW’s Children’s Services, Recreation and Camping enterprise, plus supporting our Youth and Community programs.
  • Proactively developing media stories, pitching stories, managing a responsive press office and working with the Head of Corporate Affairs to manage public relations for all all Y NSW brand stories, community programs and enterprise areas.
  • Developing, optimising, and continuously improving a streamlined customer communications plan – including any change communications – and executing this across internal communications channels, web, social media, e Communications and on-site.
  • Writing and creating content in liaison with social media, digital marketing and design experts at the Y.

You are:

  • A seasoned media specialist with experience scouting for opportunities, and shaping, pitching and securing stories in the broadcast, print and online media. Equally expert at managing responsive issues in the media and providing excellent service to journalist and influencers.
  • Highly organised and an astute planner with the ability to engage with a wide variety of people across professions and specialisms.
  • An exceptional writer and editor. You will be doing a lot of writing for various platforms, capturing the essence of the organisation’s brand belief and conveying this to both internal stakeholders and a variety of customers. You know how to write to create points of distinction, to clearly inform, to persuade action and reinforce messages to various audiences. You have proven experience of doing this across multi-channel content delivery.
  • Great at building relationships with internal customers, including senior leadership, and leveraging those relationships for great outcomes.
  • Degree qualified in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field.
