Aboriginal people are strongly encouraged to apply

Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women’s refuges, who were  concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a ‘healing’ approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven ‘patch-up’ approach.

Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.

The Role:

This position’s primary purpose is to provide culturally secure services to clients of Yorgum affected by domestic and family violence, child sexual abuse and grief and loss.

To be considered for the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:

  1. A minimum qualification of a Cert IV in Mental Health or a Diploma in Counselling or working towards this qualification.
  2. Demonstrated experience in providing evidence-based counselling and case management skills with an understanding of issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Terms of Reference and cultural competency.
  4. Demonstrated experience in engaging with and building strong working relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders.
  5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  7. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft applications and database management.

  • A Valid Driver’s License
