Yorgum Healing Services

  • Aboriginal people are strongly encouraged to apply

ABOUT US:

Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women’s refuges, who were  concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a ‘healing’ approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven ‘patch-up’ approach.

Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community-based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.

The Role:

Yorgum Healing Services (Yorgum) in partnership with Hope Community Services has been awarded a contract to establish and operate the Armadale Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Hub along with a number of other specialist service partners including:

  • Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services
  • Ngala
  • Women’s Legal Service WA
  • Aboriginal Legal Services of WA
  • Marmun Mia-Mia
  • 360 Health + Community
  • Ruah Community Services.

The new hub will provide victim-survivors with access to services and supports in a single, accessible location, as well as providing off-site services for perpetrators and young people. The service model will see the creation of a multicultural and multidisciplinary team, while adopting a trauma informed, culturally competent approach: while the various hub team members will be employed by one of the nine service partners, they will work within the cohesive FDV Hub team culture under the leadership of the FDV Manager, to provide support to women and children who are experiencing family violence.

This role will assist in delivering the men’s healing circles including community education and awareness, linking other agencies to support social and emotional wellbeing of perpetrators of family violence. The role will also be responsible for assisting running activities and programs to support the behaviour change to family violence.

SELECTION Criteria:

To be considered for the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with the Aboriginal Community, Elders and relevant community stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of Family Domestic Violence (FDV) and or survivors of FDV.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering culturally safe activities to promote positive social and emotional wellbeing.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Generous salary packaging scheme
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Cultural Supervision
  • Flexible and friendly team environment

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO SUPPLY:

  • A Valid Driver’s License
