yourtown’s Mind 4 Kids Program delivers free, short-term psychological services and care co-ordination for children aged to 12 years with moderate mental health issues. The program is delivered within a stepped care approach and works in an integrated and collaborative manner with wraparound supports. It is provided on site and via outreach e.g. in schools.

We are seeking an Allied Health Professional - Counsellor to provide evidence based, child-centred and family-focused psychological therapies for children aged 0 – 11 years with moderate mental illness, to improve their health, resilience and wellbeing.

You will:

  • Undertake intake, assessment, case planning and referrals
  • Engage parents/carers and children in a range of evidence-based screening questionnaires and outcome measures
  • Deliver evidence-based counselling and psychotherapeutic interventions tailored to the assessed needs of each child and family
  • Support children to improve their mental health, and emotional and social wellbeing
  • Work with families to improve parental understanding of child’s needs and how to support their child
  • Ensure that children and their families are linked and transitioned to appropriate support services in exit planning

About you:

You will be comfortable and skilled in working with a wide age range of children and young people and will have demonstrated experience and commitment to evidence based therapies in line with the person’s needs, as well as a strong foundation of underlying principles of a strengths based, client-centered, attachment and trauma informed framework.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • relevant university level qualifications and will be eligible for professional registration with the Australian Counselling Association; Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia; or other relevant body
  • minimum of 3 years experience providing counselling and psychotherapy for children and their families
  • demonstrated skills and experience in assessment, case formulation and planning, therapeutic interventions, and capacity to provide culturally appropriate therapeutic responses to clients
