Child and Family Case Worker - Education Engagement Program - Ipswich

The Engagement with Education Engagement program is a wholly yourtown funded pilot program designed to facilitate a successful transition to high school for primary school students demonstrating low levels of engagement with education and identified as at risk of not transitioning successfully to high school.

Students are identified prior to their final year of primary school and are supported for a minimum of two years. The model features three integrated components: intensive individual student support; support for families; and support for schools. Program staff provide individual, child centred and family focussed support to students at school and in the home, and work in close collaboration with the school and the child’s family to tailor support to each child.

About the role

As the Child and Family Case Worker you will provide long term individual and family case management and mentoring support to assist students (aged 10-12yrs old) successfully transition to high school. This support seeks to address personal, family, school and environmental factors to strengthen the student’s engagement with education. You will work within, and outside the classroom, in community, and in the home environment. You will provide individual support to students; family support; and collaboration with the schools.

About you

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in child development, human services or similar and at least three years’ experience working with children and young people (aged 10-12yrs) and their families
  • A strong understanding of trauma informed care and managing barriers to engaging with education
  • Experience working in a collaborative approach with families and schools
  • An understanding of systems theory in working with families and experience in developing skills in independence with young people and parents
